Risk Factors Of Male Infertility

A child is the greatest blessing in life. To give birth to your own little one and watching every stage of its growth is indeed the most beautiful part of life. There are certain couples who aren't lucky enough to get a child, which is mainly due to infertility. In fact, almost 15 percent of couples are infertile. Infertility is the inability to conceive a child even after attempting for a year. Such a situation can be very much depressing and might spoil your zest for life.

Over a third of these cases comprises of male infertility. Male infertility occurs when the sperm does not function properly, or when the sperm count is very low. It can also occur at times when the sperm delivery or the mobility of the sperm is affected. Infertility was definitely a case with no hopes, several decades back. But now, we live in an era where undesirable conditions can be prevented and even cured. There are various treatments available to overcome infertility. Yet, it is always best to be aware of the risk factors of the condition so that you can fight it easier.

Risk Factors of Male Infertility

Age: The testosterone level in the blood shows a declination with age, in almost all men despite being healthy. This decline may start from the age of 30. After the age of 30, the testosterone level decreases by 1% every year. So the chances of infertility are more in a 35-year-old man than in a 25-year-old.

Smoking: Well, smoking is indeed injurious to health and even spoils your chances of having a lovely little baby! Smoking results in a decrease of the sperm motility and in the percentage of normal sperm cells.

Obesity: Obesity leads to a significant decline in the number of normal motile sperm. The semen quality of men who have excess fat in the suprapubic area and the thighs will be poor.

Consumption of Alcohol and caffeinated drinks: Such drinks affect the reproductive process in every level. Studies also show that men who have more than 3 cups of tea and coffee daily might succumb to infertility.

Scrotal temperature: The scrotal temperature can decide the semen quality. An increase in scrotal temperature will result in poor semen quality.  Avoid driving continuously for 2 hours or more in a stretch or wearing tight trousers. All these can lead to an increase in scrotal temperature.
