Myomectomy treatment
Myomectomy is one of the treatments used to remove uterine fibroids. In this procedure, doctors would remove only the fibroids and leaves the uterus intact. Usually, surgery is recommended when the fibroids are severe, and symptoms persist in getting worse.
Fibroids could lead to fertility issues, and some fibroids might cause cancer. Doctors would then recommend myomectomy for such issues. Before the surgery, doctors would shrink the fibroids with the help of a hormone. This helps to reduce the loss of blood that is helpful for anemic patients.
There are 3 methods in a myomectomy, and it depends on the size, location, and number of fibroids.
1.Laparotomy - this is the conventional surgery in which large incision will be made either horizontally or vertically on the abdominal wall to access the cavity and remove the fibroids.
2. Laparoscopy - this method is preferred when the fibroids are small. There will be one or more small incisions made to remove the fibroids. After visualizing the uterus, the fibroids are identified and removed. Laparoscopic myomectomy helps in faster recovery compared to the laparotomy method.
3. Hysteroscopy - this method helps to treat large fibroids but primarily preferred for small fibroids. Hysteroscopic myomectomy is preferred if the fibroid is protruding into the endometrial cavity and the fibroids which have not grown deep into the uterine wall. It involves inserting a light viewing tool into the uterus through the genitalia.
Myomectomy preserves the uterus. Hence, many women choose this procedure for removing the fibroids. At Mathurtva Fertility Hospital, doctors provide safe methods to remove the fibroids and helps patients to recover faster.
